We just got back from Paintball Land where Isaac had his first-ever try at paintballing. He had a blast! He, Ethan and Joshua played for about 3 hours. The last hour was spent playing with a group of over seventy who were participating in a summerlong event called WMD. I think that stands for Weekends of Mass Destruction. They got to play that for free, though it usually costs $25 just to participate, because the owner knew they'd only been there a few hours and had not even used all their paintballs, and this big event takes up the entire complex, so there is no place left for nonparticipants to play. Like I said, they just had a blast.
We had rain again today. It was not torrential or violent, but it came down steadily for several hours. The trouble is, the ground is completely waterlogged, so it all ran off; nothing soaked in. I wish I knew how to upload photos, so I could show everyone what it did. Our friends the Swans have a nice big pasture near the highway that flooded almost completely-- quite a feat! Across the highway from them the church youth group who makes oodles of money every 4th of July on a fireworks stand found their location flooded. We checked on it again after 4 hours, and they had moved all their merchandise and two truck trailers of stuff to higher ground. The tent full of empty shelves sat out in water that was still at least 4 feet deep. We went by the city park that surrounds the city lake. It took a while to get around to it because Blue Starr was flooded, just east of the bridge over the creek was under at least 3 feet of water. We watched a cyclist walk his bike through it-- very foolhardy. We had to turn the van around and come at it from the west. Foam from the rushing water was piled in drifts next to the road; one pile of it formed a triange about 10X30X15 in perimeter and over a foot thick. Naomi was supposed to go babysit at a friend's house out in the country, but we couldn't get to their house and they couldn't get out. We took some footage with Samuel's camcorder of the water pouring over the lake's spillway so the older kids can see it when they get home.
